Snow Leopard
In the Himalayas of northern India, and in Tibet and central Asia, lives the snow leopard. It lives as high as an altitude of 13000 feet in summer, and comes down to 6000 or 7000 feet in winter. It is between six and seven feet long and, as might be expected, has warm fur two to four inches deep and a bushy tail. Wild goats, sheep, hares, marmots, little animals called pikas, and pheasants are its food. Little is known about its habits, as it seldom comes into contact with man. Like the lion, tiger, leopard, and jaguar, it does not purr.
