The Bengal cat, above, is a hybrid a cross between a leopard cat and a domestic cat. Breeders hope to establish it as a new breed. The cats must breed "pure" for four generations before acceptance. Breeding was begun in 1970, and the cats are registered in the foundation book of the American Cat Association.
